Hello, This has been working, go away for a few days and now I am having problems connecting to the ANI Server4.0 When I attempt to start Topology Services, I get an error stating that I cannot connect to the ANI Server. It recommends I restart ANISeriver 4.0 the restart Campus Manager...How do I check to see if ANIServer is running? If its nto running, how do dI start it?

I have found a thread that says to make sure my ANYServer.properties file has "UseDNS=false" which my file is set too. Please any help is greatly appreciated...

Log into Cisco Works, click on the tab "Server Configuration" the click on the file "Process Management", then click the "Start Process" file. Choose the drop down and you should see ANI server, just click it and click on the "start" button. If ANI server is not listed, reboot your server and give it about 10 minutes after the server comes back up before starting topology services.

I have also problems with the Ani server. But in my case it works somtimes fine, but most of the time it doesn't work. I have mainly the following problems:

1). I can connect to the Aniserver via Campus Manager. Ie Topology Services. But I cannot make any changes in SNMP settings and Discovery settings via the Server Configuration section. The system tells me that the ANI server is not running. And In: About Ani Server -> Devices Support, I also get a problem. The devices are not shown. The systems says that there is a problem with the ANI server.

2.) The same as above. But I cannot connect to AniServer via Campus Manager too. In other words: I cannot connect to ANI in any kind.

In both case the process manager gives no faults.

Can anybody help???

Thanks a lot!

the problem can be multifaceted. First off, for your environment to perform correctly you need to have DNS running. Both forward and reverse lookup. So any advice that you may receive to null the value of DNS resolution, is, in my opinion, an erroneous lead. There are a number of contributers that can cause problems. If I were to recommend a direction to first attack, it would be the JDK/JRE relationship. They have to be tight. As well, there were some anomolies around the beginning of January (the sixth to be exact) due to the expiration of CA verisign authorities. This cause a lot of working solutions to go haywire, once again, a java issue. Keep in mind, the ANI is an asyncronous network interface, treat it as such.

The solution is simple, turn off the utilisation of the DNS in the ANIServer.properties , useDNS=false

You just need now to fill your host file(c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\ for win2k) with the correct parametres:

@ip ANIServer4.0-"computer_name"

Launch, or relaunch the aniserver process ( server configuration -> administration -> process management ), wait a few miniute ( it could be around 5 minute ) and try to reconnect to aniserver, normally it s all right.

I'm having a problem with ANI Server also. The ANI server is process is up and I tried the solution with the "useDNS = false" and it's still not working.

When I configure the seed hosts and try to start de discovery process there's an error saying:

Configuration not applied to a running server...

I'm running Cw2000 on a Win2000 Server. Is there anyone who knows how to fix this problem?

Hey,
I have the same problem as described in the message from ani4. I also tried to change aniserver.properties and to disable DNS. the host file contains the correct information at the first line anyway. does anybody know another solution?

Hi,

I get the same problem but I get the message "cannot connect to ANI server" when run the browser to call the Campus Manager application outside firewall. ( I tried that it can connect the ANI server in same machine ). Also I check there is no special denied log in the firewall.

Any suggestion to fix it?

All, maybe this will help. I have two solutions for
Windows 2000 only. Try solution one first. If it doesn't solve connectivity problem try solution two.

Need addition help, let me know.

Good luck..

Solution one:
Corrupt Database Tables
A corruption in the database tables may cause connection problems. Reinitialize the database tables as follows:
From the command line/dos prompt, log in as root/local admin.
Issue the following command for your operating system:
NT:
cd CSCOpx/bin/
perl reinitdb.pl

The command, reinitdb.pl displays the following prompt:
This will erase all data from the database. Are you sure [y/n]:
Type y
Presst the ENTER/RETURN key and the ANI information regarding Network Discovery (Wbu tables) is erased from the database, a new ANI Server connection is established, and network discovery is initiated.
If you are still unable to connect to the ANI Server, do the following:
Stop the CiscoWorks Daemon Manager
Re-type the reinitdb.pl command with -restore option.
NT/Windows2000:
cd CSCOpx/bin/
perl reinitdb.pl -restore
Restart the CiscoWorks Daemon Manager if no errors are returned from the reinitdb.pl command. The -restore option deletes the existing ANI database, not just the contents. A new ANI database is created .

Solution two:
Multi-Homed Server
A multi-home machine is one with multiple NIC cards, each configured with different IP addresses. Although Campus Manager 3.1 is supported by multi-homed machines, you must modify the gatekeeper configuration file to run it on multi-homed machines. Because of CORBA restrictions, only one IP address can be used by a client to access CiscoWorks2000 Server.
To ensure Campus Manager runs properly on multi-homed machines, follow these steps:
1. Open the gatekeeper configuration file (gatekeeper.cfg).
o Windows: Located under the $NMSROOT\CSCOpx\lib\vbroker directory. Note: $NMSROOT is the default install location for Windows.
Note: You must be Administrator/root in order to modify the above file or stop/start CW2000 processes.
2. Go to the section that begins with the following line:
#************ BEGIN MULTI-HOME PROPERTIES **********************
3. By default, the above lines are commented with #. Uncomment the property by removing the # character.

4. Enter the appropriate IP address in the following fields:
o vbroker.gatekeeper.backcompat.callback.host=<external-IP-address>
o vbroker.se.exterior.host=<external-IP-address>
o vbroker.se.iiop_tp.host=<external-IP-address>
o vbroker.se.interior.host=<external-IP-address>

For example:
vbroker.se.interior.host=192.168.x.x

5. Save the file.

6. Stop the CW2000 processes by issueing the following command from a DOS window CLI:
o Windows: net stop crmdmgtd

7. Delete the gatekeeper.ior file, located in the following directory:
o Windows: $NMSROOT\CSCOpx\
8. Start the CW2000 processes by issueing the following command from a DOS window CLI:
Windows: net start crmdmgtd

Hello,
I am also experiencing such problems, however after doing the above recommended, the problem is still not solved.

To avoid firewalls & such, I normally Terminal Services into the box, and then launch the GUI
I find that access to the ANI Server does not work when it is launched as localhost, but it will work when launched as address>:<port number>

I am not sure if this will solve your problems, but it solved mine.

Good Luck

Guys, Dont know if this is related to your problem , however somewhere in the dim and distant past a release note mentioned that in you /etc/hosts file you MUST have the server ip and name BEFORE the 127.0.0.1 localhost entry. This is NOT normally the case as most people insert the server name AFTER the localhost entry.. Try that !

I have a problem with my ciscoworks. I can't launch the campus manager. The ANI server 4.1 is not running.

when I start the process, he will shutdown by administrator.

Anybody could help me?

thanks
