Hi Tek-Tip Gurus
I have a friend with a bar running an XP computer running Micros 3700 and Res 4.9, and two Micros POS systems at the bar. As an IT person, I’m trying to help him with a looming problem. This micros 3700/Res 4.9 machine is on life support at this point. And as you might imagine, post pandemic, he cannot lay out the thousands needed to upgrade his entire system. But this computer is literally falling apart and I’ve barely kept it alive.
I was thinking I could clone the hard drive to a new PC, because the machine acting as the server has to be XP to talk to the POS units, right?
Is it a fine idea to run VM on a new windows 10 pc for a while? Is there one that suits this purpose better than others? It looks like I could upgrade a new PC to Windows 10 Pro and install hyper-v and do that. Or is it better to use one of the other VM’s? Or is this idea terrible?
