Hi there here is a question for you all

I have Analysis server running on my local machine with Enterprise Manager running SQL server 2000 as sserver on my machine also.

I can connect to my local databases via the analysis server.... this is fine.

howerver i have a sql server registration on my enterprise manager which is remote to my local area (it sits on server in the comms room). Now when i connect via Analysis server to this database ... it wont let me... it errors out..... which is weird.. does this mean that the SQl server requires analysis server running on it also.

i.e. on the remote server do i need to install analysis server in order to make it work?

Kind regards

Sanj

If you want to use that remote server to build cubes, you need AS running. If you are only using that remote server as a data source, no, you don't need AS on it.

Hi thanks for the reply..

Im trying to store the cubes local to my machine.. I have the connection ok now.. (via ODBC connection)

However when i go to create a new dimension... i can browse the data fine... therefore know the connection is working...

and look at the dimension data... But when i go to process the dimension i get the following error

Its says Data Source Provider Error ....

Error(-2147221411): Process operation failed; Time:23/09/04 12:33:38

Does anyone know what this means?

Thanks

Sanj

Have you checked on Microsoft's site and in the documentation? Also, might help to do a search on this forum. Good Luck.
