Analysing ht History Object for last page??

I have a site that posts data from one page into another, and am trying to create a back function using javascript. I can't simply use the back button in IE, as sometimes I need to go back 2 steps, and other times 1 step. Is it possible to scan the history object and find the last page visted, rather than the last entry in the object, and go back to that??, i.e. find the last instance of page1.jsp, and go back to that??
