Upgraded from a Merlin 2.1 to a Magix 4.0 with Merlin Messenger.
1 MLX card
2 800 cards
4 016tr cards
1 Merlin Messaging(4 ports)

Moved from 012 cards to the 016 cards, so I had to renumber.

Set up as PBX
there are 53 analog sets and 3 mlx sets
I have the 9th slot set up as a phantom 24tdl for phantom mailbox extensions.
what is going on???
The analog sets, and it doesn't matter what card, seem to lose the ability to dial out every now and again.Sometimes when they dial it doesn't ring and they get dead air, sometimes they get the wave off/doodle tone.

I pull the plug from the port and place it back in and it works fine.

I had to assign the lines to each one of the analog sets, I had to assign the auto line selection for intercom first, I have checked the restrictions, disallow lists, dial codes, etc and I can't see anything wrong.

Has anyone had this happen before or have any ideas?

You have a lot of analog sets - depending on usage you may be running out of available TTR's. Have you checked all of the TTR's? Maybe some of your new 016 cards have bad TTR's. You should have 4 per 016 card - I would test them all. Also check the processor error log for TTR related errors.

Well, as TOMD stated, it could be an issue of not enough TTR's.

As I see it, you have 22, which is a pretty good ratio. (22/53)

-BUT- if more than 22 folks are calling out, ttr's could be the issue.

I can't remember the code/process to check out the TTRs.

I will check the error log. The light on the processor never showed an error though.

to quote samh30:

Testing Touch-Tone Receivers

The 016 (T/R), 016 ETR, 400 GS/LS, and 412 LS-ID-TDL modules each provide
four touch-tone receivers (TTRs). The 008 OPT, 012 T/R, 800 DID, 800 GS/LS-ID
and MERLIN Messaging System modules each provide two TTRs. The 0X24 TDL module provides
eight touch-tone recivers.

To test TTRs, follow these steps:

1. Pick up the handset of a touch-tone single-line telephone that is connected to one of the
modules that provide TTRs.

2. Dial *04 and the 2-digit number (starting with 01) of the TTR that you want to test.
You should hear a busy tone if the receiver is in use.
You will hear a reorder tone if you misdialed or addressed a
receiver not in your system. (This can happen if, for example, you dialed 07 and your system has
only one 016 (T/R) module and one 800 GS/LS-ID module, for a total of six TTRs.)

3. If you hear reorder tone, try again.
If you hear dial tone after one to three seconds of silence, proceed with this test.

4. Dial 123456789*0#. You should hear a dual-tone multifrequency (DTMF)
signal as each button is pressed.
When you finish dialing, you should hear a 3-beep confirmation tone.

5. Repeat the test for each TTR.

Good Luck.

I have a cutomer with the same problem. We replaced a Magix R3 (originally R2 upgrade to R3) that was working flawless for 5 years with a R4. Entire system was replaced card for card phone for phone when lease was up. We have replaced all 3 016TR card at least 3 times each. Its been going on for along time and I plan to go back again. We are hoping its a bad batch of 016TR as the following post suggest.

Will the system attempt to use a TTR even though it may be bad, which would explain why the dialing doesnt work sometimes?

OH YES, It truly will.

I caught one in the act a few months ago, these folks had a number of single line sets and several cards that supplied TTR's.

So, based on the trouble description, I started testing them.

Of couse, the bad one was the very last one in the system.

But yes, it will select it even though it is bad, thus the failure, AT TIMES!

Do to the poor maintenance software functions and features of the LEGEND/MAGIX I don't think you can put it on Maintenance Busy!

So your only choice other than putting up with the problem is to replace the defective module....

....JIM....

Well, you could maint bz the whole card, but usually that's not a very good option.

OK, found 2 bad TTRs on one of the cards, and replaced it.
One of the CO lines was dea at the CO protection. Fixed that.
And then found another issue that I didn't look for..ARS restriction.
Some of the ports were set for ARS restriction level 0. I never have used the feature, so never looked in that direction.
Thanks all.

ARS restriction for voice mail ports is automatically set to 0 when the group is set as Integrated VMI. They are also set to Outward Restricted. Only the last port (or last 2 on a 6 port) need to be changed if using Outcalling. If you need to transfer to extensions that have been Remote Call Forwarded, all the VM ports need to be unrestriced, FRL raised to 3, allowed Trunk to Trunk as well.
