I've got a call manager 9.1 system, and VG-224 gateways.
I was trying to track down what fax DN was tied to an analog port, since it wasn't on any of my maps. I used a toning device, and traced it to port 18 on VG224-1. That's when I found something weird - there was no DN assigned to that analog port. Isn't that impossible? How is it that a fax machine can fax out without a DN tied to the port? In my head, I expect to see analog DN's tied to a port or else it can't work. I traced it out again, and double checked for any type of cross-connect, but found nothing. I put an analog phone on the port and dialed the extension on the desk next to me. It rang up as "unknown number". Now I'm really confused...
Is it possible for an Analog gateway to provide you dial-tone and let you make a call even though no DN is assigned?
I have to split for the day, but any advice is appreciated.
