simple question - you know that =EXACT function ?

well im comparing string valuse between one sheet and the other, and if they match - a true or false is the result.

what i want to do is - depending if the output is true or false, have some sort of 'counter' variable in a cell that starts off at 0.

if the output was false based on the =EXACt function, then it stays 0.

if true - then it increments the value in that cell - i.e CELL=CELL+1

is this possible in excel ?

c0deM0nK424,

Members looking for Excel Formula solutions will not be looking here in an MS Access forum.

As Duane suggested, forum68 would be the appropriate place to post your question.

sorry if I violated the rules of the forums folks - its okay, through a bit of experimentation and perseverence as well as a colleague working on a similar problem - the issue is resolved.

I was basicaly using the =EXACT function, to compare two chunks of text - and then using that =N formula, to convert TRUE/FALSE to 1/0.

i decided to stop using a seperate sheet to 'lookup' the values and simply had them on the same page.

Here is what I was doing if anyones interested.

1 = person who sat exam, got the question correct hence awarded the mark.

0 = incorrect answer, no mark

self explanatory really.

in this scenario each question carried 1 mark. there were 30 questions.

but yeah, issue resolved.

You are posting to users who may seldom use Excel!

Had you posted in forum68, 1) you would have more than likely received one or more SIMPLER solutions and 2) other members interested in Excel would have benefited from the posted solution(s) including yours.

BOTTOM LINE: Tek-Tips is not primarily about GETTING solutions as much as it is SHARING solutions with the appropriate audience.
