Hello,
When I was trying to install SQLServer(7.0) in my Windows2000 operating system, It was

not properly installed and given an error message saying that,

'Setup failed to configure the server, refer to the server error logs and 'cnfgsvr.out' for

more information'

Please help me in this problem.

Waiting for your valuable reply..
..............V.Thandava Krishna.

Hi Thandava,

The error occured during restarting the server may be because the account under which the service (sql 7.0) is running may not be an administrator of that machine. Please check this aspect.

I'm having the exact same problem...
The service doesn't show up in the Services list, so I don't know how to set it up to run as a different user.

Would this have someting to do with running SQL7.0 on a Win 2k machine?

Sam

I was having the same problem a while back because I was attempting to install it through terminal services. Try installing it locally using the administrator account, and it should work.

jdraper3 had it exactly right! When I installed directly, without Terminal Services, it worked perfectly. Thanks!

Just had the same problem and just found out from a Developer what the problem stems from;-
I put the SQL7.0 CD in the W2K machine then went back upstairs to use terminal server as i'm lazy and couldn't b bothered hooking up a terminal. So anyway i got the same error message and the problem was you need to be present at the server and use a terminal hooked up to it for the Install. So 1st you must do an Uninstall and then re-install. Good Luck
