I need to export data from btrieve *.btr file. I used "butil -save file.btr file.asc" and I have got an ASCII sequential file. How should I continue to export data into *.dbf format?

I'm not sure about how to go from ascii to .dbf, but set up pervasive's ODBC drivers and set up link tables to your .btr files in MS Access. Then write a simple query dumping everything into its own table and save it as a .dbf file.

If you have questions on how to do this let me know. Software Support for Sage Mas90, Macola, Crystal Reports, Goldmine and MS Office

I don't know the *.ddf files, so I think it would be difficult to use ODBC connecton, isn't it?

usage of *.ddf depends on the version of btrieve u r using. if u r using version 5.10 & below there is no *.ddf entries available.

in this case u need to know the file structure and create dbf file structure accordingly with provision for header i.e., 102,kasdkadasd where 102, is the header in the dbf, in reality gives the length of the record in btrieve. then give the command

use <mydbf file>
appe from <ascii saved file> sdf

It is not difficult to use ODBC at all. You should have ODBC as a part of btrieve, Install it on your machine, and set up a DSN in control panel that points to your data.

Do you have crystal reports? If so you can write a quick report in 10 minutes that will take every field in the table and export it to .dbf, or any number of formats.

Actually if you email me your data and .ddf files I can do it for you and email it back. Contact me if you are interested.

Thank you very much, but I have NO *.ddf files and I am not sure that I am able to create them.

Get your ddf fies from the company that sold or developed the application. I have had to do this before. Software Support for Sage Mas90, Macola, Crystal Reports, Goldmine and MS Office

If you need to create DDF files for your existing Btrieve files check out BtSearch at It helps you analyze your data and create the DDF Files.
