Hi

We are currently using the web version of JD Edwards to provide access to end users.
Our present system consists of a Sun box running Solaris 8 (with Oracle db), a Win2k deployment server and Win2k Web server. The web servr has IBM websphere 3.5

we have reached the stage where we have decided to upgrade websphere to the next version. But before we bite the bullet and cough up the money for IBM, we were wondering if there is any alternative to using Websphere. Does anybody out there use anything else?

Thansks.

Assuming you are talking about the OneWorld HTML client that runs on the JAVA Access Server (JAS), then the answer is no. No there is no alternative to WebSphere. SP 22 will end support for WebSphere 3.5. As I recall the price goes from $700 to $8000 for WebSphere 4 (and then depends on version and processors). JDE chose to build their HTML client on WebSphere (it runs Java Server Pages to generate the HTML, similar to Active Server Pages, and Cold Fusion).

If you are looking for an alternative to JAS, you can always publish the Win23 (FAT) client over Citrix MetaFrame.
However, my consultant tells me that JDE is pushing towards JAS.
