I am using a power supply connected directly to two Valcom horns and tied into the Output page control pair on the CICS block. Works just fine when they press a page button set up as F631 Page Speakers & Sets.

Has anyone been able to provide a tone over the horns to alert of an incoming tone using the above wiring plan? I keep thinking that there must be some sort of tone or some noise that could be routed to the horns like from the IATA, etc. I know I can add a Valcom control unit and that it has a Warble Alert tone but this is such a small install that I don't really need one.

I have it set for yes but I believe that only goes out over the sets and not the amplified paging horns

What you want is to find the Aux Ringer output, Go to the faq's page and to Norstar wiring and CICS before or after software level 6.0

Be careful about what powered sources you are hooking up to the cabinet. the system is running at 24VDC. some paging systems are a constant 90VAC and can easily burn out the cabinet.

Under system programming you have to Enable Aux ringer under terminals and sets and the extension and capabilities i believe.

Hope maybe that helps. Good luck.

Yes I understand now. The power supply is 24 volts. Do I connect the AUX RINGER pair along with the audio pair used for PAGING OUTPUT which is what I have it connected to now for paging via the sets. So in effect I want to be able to send a ringer signal through the horns as well as a voice page through the horns when they press their PAGE button.

I think that is a function that the sets only perform unless I am wrong.

Your going to have to purchase a paging unit that has inputs for both the AUX ringer & Paging. Because if you have both outputs connected up to the same thing, When one the two are signalling your going to back-feed into the other or have competing signals. The page tone the Norstar generates only goes over sets, Paging tones over AUX equipment is controlled by paging controller.

Pretty easy solution,

Once you press page, pick your number of choice and press it on the keypad. The Overhead Paging feature will produce a DTMF tone over the external loudspeakers but never on the sets....well this only works on DR5.1 and newer Norstar systems.

How do I know? The Greyhound station outside my window blasts pages using Feature 62 on their Norstar and they always press 0 a few times before they talk to get everyone's attention. I also tried it on my bcm50 and it works like a charm.

I am looking for a way to send a tone over the horns when an incoming call is ringing the sets automatically.

hmmmmm,

Ok, this is rube goldberg, but...

take a M or T series set, open it up, splice the speaker contacts to an RCA jack and attach to an amplifier. Make sure the phone connected to the PA is in the ringing group.

I tried it with an M7100 once, the phone didn't like me and shut off. I had better luck with a newer Tseries T7316.

Just ideating...

I found an old Valcom V-2001 will that provide a warble tone?
