Amplified Paging Problem - Resister or Bogen-WMT1A

I understand that I must either build a jack with a 68Ohm Resister or buy a Bogen-WMT1A to be able to use an analog port to send audio to a paging system. Can someone please explain why this is necessary and the IPO does not have a simple PAGE PORT and also what exactly does the Resister or the Bogen-WMT1A do that allows the analog port set on Speaker to work. I noticed that buy itself I only get a busy signal when I dial the analog port extension number.

I have no problem installing this to fix the problem but it seems like such a effort to get amplified paging working. I am just curious how these devices correct the problem and why there is a problem in the first place so that I can understand from a technical standpoint what is going on. For example with a Nortel you just place your test set on the PAGE PORT, dial the page feature code and you get audio, plug that into your page control unit and your good to go.

no WMT1A needed for Bogen amps, they have a T/R input which is low impedance and is matching the low impedance of an analog port used for paging.

But should you ever encounter impedance mismatch with an amp that doesn't have a low impedance input then never use a resistor it is Mickey Mouse stuff and doesn't look very professional. I know that a lot of people will disagree but the look of a loosely wired in resistor vs a device properly screwed on the backboard and wired out nicely is just for me no question.

- The Analog Station Port must be kept in an Off Hook state at all times.
- It is completely backwards logic from what you would expect a normal telephone circuit/line to operate.

and (why) the IPO does not have a simple PAGE PORT
- That's the way Avaya designed it.
- It's just 1 of many things that don't make sense with this product line.

- It keeps the Analog Station Port Off Hook.
- Never use the resistor method.
- The amplifier is looking for low AC signal.
- Using a resistor allows a DC Voltage into the amplifiers input stage.
- Also, there is a direct (sneak path) electrical connection between the two.
- Use a Bogen WMT1A or Valcom VMT-2 to electrically (inductively) isolate the KSU from the amplifier.

- You never dial the Extension number, you dial the Page Codes 70 or *70.

- The whole problem is in the product design.
- There are many, many, many little "gotchas" both physical and programmatic with this product and it big brother.
- Stick with this product and you will find out soon enough.
