I am being told that it is a written standard that says amphenol connections going from a phone switch to the blocks have service loops --- now I do not know where I would find this--has anyone seen a TIA/EIA or Bicsi standard?

I am very confused

Thanks

Chiefred, I have never heard of anything like this but I would be too concerned either. Most all of the time people install premade amphenol cables and but them in certain lengths. It never fails that their is always some slack left over that is usually coiled in the trays on top of the switches cabinet. Either way I would think that you are covered.

I would assume you are dealing with a voice backbone cable.
In this case it is recommended to have enough cable in the Telecomm Room to reach the farthest point from point of entry and then floor to ceiling.
This is true for any backbone cable, the service slack is spelled out in the BICSI Installation Manual.

BTW, BICSI has only written one actual standard, what they have written a lot of is reference and installation methodology based on the standards.

Cheifred- I have not heard of it. Slack between a switch and a block on the same TMB just looks messy to me. I prefer cut to size and hand terminated as opposed to plug in. Of course you can save a lot of time with the plug-ins, but I don’t know if it is worth it when you consider the cost of pre-plumbed 66 or 110 blocks.
