How do you "copy / print" the current report query information that is displayed in the "Query" diagolue box under the "Profile Tab" when the radio button "Query Column" is selected.

In other words, "How do you copy or print the lists of column titles, corresponding database columns, the data type, the length of the fields, the precision of the data, and the scale that are listed in the report query"?

The full menu path is:
Report -> Query (A Query Dialogue is displayed)
Select the "Profile Tab"
Select the "Show" radio button "Query Columns"

Thanks,

John Noble

PS. I tried to cut and paste the displayed information but I was unsuccessful.

HI,

You cannot do that from Impromptu but I-Assistant does.

Graham.

I find this the most aggravating thing about Cognos. The facilities are there to enable the extraction of a wide range of information yet one usually has to use third party software to manage the environment properly. While I have written macros to extract some of the information you refer to, it is interesting that a number of attributes (e.g. the data type, the length of the fields, the precision of the data) are not described in any of the supporting documentation; yet products like I-Assistant can extract them. Do these companies have access to private commercial information or does someone out there have a full list?

If you save it under IQD format and open IQD files in notepad , you have almost the same information available.

You know the Columns names, and which db field is used to populate each column.

Good point Draoued, I'd forgotten about that. But it doesn't give the attribute details that John was asking for
