Hi
Could anyone pls help me with the amount of data ( no. of kb) that is transferred from the scanner to the PC software when scannning a 1D & 2D barcode?

I'm trying to calculate bandwith needs :)

hch,
that is going to depend on the amount of data encoded in the barcode.
regards,
longhair

1D barcodes typically encode between 5 and 60 characters; you are unlikely to use one with more than 100 encoded characters.

2D barcodes can encode considerably more characters, ranging from a few characters to several thousand.

[I think that PDF417 will cater for up to about 1800 characters or so; DataMatrix will do somewhere around 4000]

Some of the 2D codes (e.g. PDF417) can be encoded so that you can 'stitch together' a series of individual barcodes to provide a larger overall code.

But you're still probably only dealing with a maximum of about 10KB-20KB in the most extreme case.
