Recently a client of ours picked up a Dell PowerEdge 2400 server with an AMI Elite 1500 RAID controller. Aside from being duped by Dell into believing they'll support Solaris 8, I've run into all kinds of problems with this setup.
To begin with, I had to wait nearly two months until AMI produced a driver that would allow me to actually load the system onto the main logical drive (two 9GB drives in RAID 1.)
Now the system is loaded, and is running, but now I cannot get the second logical drive (three 18GB drives in RAID 5) to newfs.
I've gotten information on using VxFS (Veritas file system) but from what I've seen it's not very inexpensive, and the free downloads at Sun only supports Sparc.
I'm running into a time crunch here, and I'm desperate for recommendations.
The system:
Dell PowerEdge 2400, Dual 866MHz PIII
1GB RAM
AMI Elite 1500 (467-2CH) RAID controller:
* 2x 9GB in RAID 1 (ch 0)
* 3x 18GB in RAID 5 (ch 1)
Adaptec 7880 SCSI (CD-ROM)
Adaptec 7890 SCSI (40GB DAT)
Thanks ahead.
