If you dont know already the Thunderbird and Duron are Socket Athlons with On-Die cache(pretty much it seems) Duron being one with 64KB ondie cache, and Thunderbird being 256Kb ondie cache, my opinion though is that AMD is going after other positions of Intel chips, in the past it gone against intel's lead chips

K5->Pentium
K6->Pentium 2
Athlon-> Pentium 3

the new ones seems to go after
Tunderbird -> Pentium 3 Coppermine
Duron -> Celeron

right now I have a busted Athlon(which works on all the low functions so I can least listen to mp3s, and watch DVDs on my hardware decoder) I'm thinking, do I want to just replace my athlon, or go with a Duron(which is said to be a bit faster than the old athlons, but not as fast as the thunderbird) the benefit is this, a Duron/600 initial price is going to be around 112$, much lower than that of an Athlon/600 , reason being is since it's on-die socket, less hardware is needed to make it, but my question is, Is it really worth it, the chip seems impressive never the less, but what about motherboards, I mean Socket A has just been invented , and so far I see FIC has already made two Socket A boards, guess I'll have to wait for the boards, but What remains, is should I move my system into the SocketA Arena, or just try to get my Athlon replaced(still waiting for Icompz.com , been talking back and forth with them for almost two months, they claim email server being down caused most complications)

So whats your thoughts on these new chips?
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
Experienced in , or have messed with : VC++, Borland C++ Builder, VJ++6(starting),VB-Dos, VB1 thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, Borland C++ 3(DOS), Borland C++ 4.5, HTML,Visual InterDev 6, ASP(WebProgramming), QBasic(least i didnt start with COBOL)
