I HAVE JUST BUILT MY FIRST SYSTEM AND I AM HAVING A PROBLEM THAT NOBODY SEEMS TO KNOW WHAY TO DO !
I INSTALLED A AMD XP4000+ ONTO A SYNTAX SV400 MOBO WITH A KT400 CHIPSET I ALSO PUT IN 2 STICKS OF DDR SDRAM PC2100(266MHZ)AND PUT IN A MAXTOR 120GB HDD+8MB CACHE AND INSTALLED A NVIDIA GEFORCE FX5200 ( 128MB) I AT FIRST LEFT THE JUMPERS JP8+JP9 ON THE MOBO AT 100MHZ AND INSTALLED WIN XP PRO ALL WAS FINE UNTIL I CHECKED THE SYSTEM DETAILS AND IT WAS SHOWING THAT IT HAD A AMD XP1800+OPERATING AT 1.5GHZ , WAS TOLD BY SYNTAX TO CHANGE JP8/JP9 TO 133MHZ (THE CORRECT SETTINGS FROM THEM NOT THE MANUAL)BUT WHEN I TRIED TO BOOT UP ,IT BOOTS AS FAR AS THE WIN XP START UP SCREEN THEN IT CRASHES, HAD TO RESTORE JP8/JP9 TO 100MHZ ,BUT STILL HAVE PROBLEM THAT THE WRONG PROCESSOR SHOWS UP , NO FLASH BIOS UPGRADE AVAILABLE FROM SYNTAX FOR AMD (AWARD BIOS 2 MB)ANY HELP WOULD BE VERY WELCOME

Try setting the jumper to 133MHz and use one memory stick only or choose RAM-timings with less performance.
Make sure the RAM runs at 133MHz as well and you have the right AGP and PCI ratio.
I think AGP must end up at 66MHz and PCI at 33MHz.
If you select a fsb of 133 the AGP ratio therefore must be set to 0.5.

Hope this helps...

133 Mhz might be the right setting for 133 X 2 = 266 which sounds right. Possible the multiplier was wrong to get to the right processor speed. An XP 2400 should run slightly under 2 gig Processor speed. On most motherboards the multiplier settings can be set to auto. When you set everything to auto that you can the motherboard usually can find the right speed. I have seen some motherboards have problems with fast memory but not PC2100. I would try setting the BIOS back to the defaults or clearing the BIOS and starting over.

If this is one of those motherboards that uses both PC133 and PC2100 memory, you may have to change the setting for the memory.

I have had several motherboards of late that wouldn't run at full FSB speed, usual culprit is faulty or incompatible ram but one I had turned out to be a faulty processor, this was caused by the customer fitting the heatsink the incorrect way round which overheated and damaged the processor, it would still run, but at a reduced clock speed like yours.
