I have a Aptiva 500mhz 256ram, model #2170-190. I was wondering if the amd 1800+ xp processor would work with my motherboard?

No. That is the quick answer without knowing if yours is a Celeron, Pentium II/III, AMD K7, or AMD K6-2 CPU. The AMD XP CPU will not fit any of those sockets/slots.

Too many things against it, memory would be wrong type, bus speeds too slow, wrong CPU socket.

I have the Amd-k6 3d processor, if that helps any. Looking to upgrade. Thanks for the info.

Glad to help.

[The AMD K6-2/500MHz CPU fits in a Super Socket 7.]

Not to sound like a wiseguy but, to get anything above a PIII in your case, you would probably end up having to strip it down to the chassis. Though your drives would
still be usable and maybe half of your cards.

As the other guys said NO. (sorry)
You have a K6 processor on a super socket 7 motherboard (super means in this case a motherboard with 100front side bus option)
Anyway the K6 series only went up to 550mhz, so that is your limit I am afraid!
The least you will get away with is: NEW motherboard, processor and fan but you may need a higher output ATX power supply as well if your PSU is under 250watts. Martin Please let members know if there advice has helped any.
