I bought a P4M800PRO-M478 from TigerDirect about 2 weeks ago. I just installed it today. When I turn on the power, all the fans kick on but I get a yellow or amber light on my monitor. Usually, when a motherboard has a problem, I always thought that it would make a beeping noise, but I dont get any beeps at all!! I tried removing ram, switching ram, unplugged hard drive etc. Any suggestions??
Thanks
John

usually that indicates that the mobo is getting power. have u installed an OS yet?

also check that the PCU is giving out enough power as this might be causing it. Ignore post b4 was silly it should be green my mistake sorry...

It has a 430 or 450 watt power supply. I only have a hard drive (20gb) and a cdrom hooked to it.The hard drive is blank. I even disconnected both of these drives, moved the ram to different slots and also tried an agp video card instead of using the bulit in one,...... still get a yellow light. Shouldnt the motherboard beep. What could be the cause?

doesnt matter if u have a 450watt could still be defective, try using another one and see if u get the same problem. :)

A few things can cause this and motherboards do not always beep. Be nice if they did and were accurate lol.

Anyway unplug it, clear the bios by jumper or battery. Then plug it back in and try that.

Also on this computer make sure the 4pin or 8 pin power connector is connect as well as the main one. If its not connected that will cause the main problem your having.

After all of that if it still dont work then your motherboard is probably doa(dead on arrival). Thats my guess anyway

Two other things to try in addition to electronicsfreak's suggestions:

Remove motherboard from case and place it on a non-conductive surface. With RAM installed, hook up power supply, monitor and keyboard then try it. This check ensures no short exists between case and motherboard.

If no joy, unplug power supply from wall, remove HSF and CPU, check for bent CPU pins, reseat CPU, reapply paste and HSF, plug back in to wall, try again.

i had the same problem with an asus p4p800. when i turned it on, the fans were spinning, but nothing on the screen. it turned out to be DOA and asus shipped me a new one and it worked like a charm.
