I am wondering if anyone was successful in using the S3 services from Amazon (File storage/sharing/etc.) using VFP?

I know theres a product called JungleDisk, and it will give me a Drive letter, however, that's not feasible to my app.

i need to be able to upload and download files (upto 200k daily) or so, and i cannot have the JungleDisk.

I use FTP now, but, that goes down alot and not stable, unless i find a stable FTP server.

Any ideas?

ps: i have googled quite a bit, and didnt find much luck.

Hi Ali,

I've not used S3 myself, but my understanding is that it's just another web service which can be accessed via SOAP. If that's right, VFP (8.0 and later) has everything you need do it. There are plenty of examples around that show you how to make calls to a web service in general, which you should be able to extrapolate to S3.

That said, if your main reason for looking at S3 is that your FTP "goes down a lot and not stable", maybe you should start by looking for a better way of doing FTP. It's a much simpler and better known system than S3, and one that can easily be automated via VFP. It could also be cheaper than S3, and usually simpler from the contractual point of view.

But, if you do go for S3, please let us know how you get on with it.
