When printing anything, the print queue (local printer) briefly registers the job, then goes blank, and nothing ever goes to the printer.

I went through all the on-line help. I changed the BIOS to make the port ECP, then SPP (whatever that means). Also tried different data types being sent to the queue (RAW and ECM, I believe).

What next?

I would remove the printer from the printers window, make sure the printer was switched on, connected properly, and on line, then restart the computer. It should find the printer, install it and bring you to the point where you can do a print test. If that doesn't happen, your LPT port might be configured incorrectly for the type of printer you're using, or if you've got an old computer and a new printer you might not have enough memory for it, or you might have a faulty cable, or .... dunno

For starters, delete the printer and reinstall. Make sure the test page prints on reinstall. Ed Fair

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply.

Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

As a general rule EPP (enhanced parallel port) is for Laser Jet type printers, ECP (extended capabilities port) is for InkJet type printers, and SPP (standard parallel port) is for Dot Matrix type printers. Set the port right and remove and reinstall as stated above should do the trick. If you deleted the printer and get a message that "some other files were installed for this printer and will no longer be needed, do you wish to delete them?" click yes.

Is the cable a centronics connection . Some older cables are not bi-directional and this has caused me some grief in the past . Also check the page setup from the program you used to print from if the paper size is not set as a4 and your printer is a4 paper the printer depending on the type printer will ignore the print job completely . Also are you using the manufacturer printer driver . I have had a printer not work because the driver I down loaded off the internet was not exactly correct even though it was the same model printer driver . Try downloaded the lastest printer driver from the internet .
