Am I going crazy? (transparency settings reset with new objects?) 1

When I was working in previous versions of illustrator, The transparency settings (i.e. Multiply @ 25% opacity) would remain from one object to the next as I drew them.

This was handy for shading, and drawing multiple transparent overlapping shapes.

Now I'm using CS2 and it always resets the transparency settings when I draw new objects.

This seems like a step backward? Is there a way to change it? Why can't I find any info about this change online?

Thanks for help if you can. . .

Rooster:

At the bottom of the appearance palette there should be a button you can click "New Art Maintains Appearance" or something to that effect. When it's on, new objects inherit the appearance of the last one you worked on.

A visual of the button to click (I'm assuming the Appearance Palette looks similar in CS2, this is in CS):

I don't like it when a new drawn object gets immediately the settings of my last settings.

If you really want a copy of your settings for a specific object use the eyedropper tool to copy settings?

Select the item whare you want a copy, the go to the eyedropper tool and click on the object you want to copy from, much easyer.

By the way, this works for effects, text, colour sampling and so on... A real timesaver.

just a remark

Thanks Itchy,

They changed that with the release of CS 1. I'm surprised it wasn't easier for me to find the solution. (just that one little place!)

carlow - For certain things it is necessary to have the new object carry the same attribute as the old one. For intance, if you have a setting of Multiply, opacity: 30%, you can draw shadows that get darker every time you draw over your last object.
