If the toll-free number is pointed to your main number, the DNIS received by AltiGen will be the main number and will tag it as it tags the main number.
For example:
Your main number is 555-1212
Your 800 number is 800-555-1212
When the call is received by the AltiGen the DNIS information it receives is 555-1212, more than likely and the call will tagged accordingly.
If you want to tag the toll-free number differently in AltiConsole (and AltiView), you can have your provider point the toll-free number to a new or unused DID and make an entry in the DNIS table for that number...
Does the above make sense? Let me know if I need to clarify -- reading it now, it's clear as mud to me.
So if I read correctly, it'll be tagged as our main number since it's going through that path.
We have 4 different 800 numbers pointed to our main number. I was hoping I could name each number diffently so we could distinguish which ad or lead source it was coming from.
For example, if I did want an 800 number to have a DNIS name "bluelight ad" I'd have to assign it to a new or unused DID?
That's exactly right. The phone company is sending your main number as the DNIS information (most likely) and that's all the AltiGen is getting. The PBX doesn't know that someone dialed a toll-free number which is essentially "piggy-backed" onto your main number.
In our part of the world, DIDs are $.20/month or less, each...
