more information on your request would help (i.e. platform) but . . .
assuming you are referring to the EDI translator and communications product . . .
there are many other translators out there-
Sterling has products that run on many platforms
Extol seems to specialize in AS/400 OSs
TIE has translators & comm for different platforms
Mercator has an any-to-any translator with comm
GE has an any-to-any translator with comm
There are some comm-only products out there. They specialize in sending data to VANs, direct-connects, and over the internet. They generally can work with any translator that you have. Examples are IPNet and Cyclone.
Try the Electronic Commerce World's buying guide at
on a project where we didn't want to get our hands dirty on any of the EDI stuff. With ClearBridge we basically just handed them a text file and they took care of all the EDI and XML translation and delivery (that is, they act as both the translator and the VAN). It worked well. We just provided text files and they did all the dirty work with EDI, VAN interconnects, testing, etc. Plus, they can handle XML so our client is XML-capable now as an added bonus.
I am an independent consultant and have done EDI mapping in ProEdi and Sterling Commerce's Gentran. I liked both products, but ProEdi was strictly for mapping and Gentran is a full featured product including VAN services. Sterling Commerce has been good to work with and their tech support is excellent. I always get questions answered and usually don't wait very long on the phone to get a technician. Gentran mapping is robust and easy to work with. I have developed maps for 810, 820, 832, 850, 852, 856, 867, 875, and 880. Gentran worked well for all these maps.
