Alternate ip Address not working

Hi Guys,

I have used with great success the alternate ip address configuration setting on a number of laptops, but i have one laptop that it wont work on, it stays on the trying to obtain ip address and never goes to the alternative ip address settings.

any ideas much appreciated

It has to "fail-over"; that is, it needs to get a NULL response when it makes a broadcast for a DHCP server. If it gets a response it can wait a long, long time before failing.

Personally, I would use NETSH.EXE with scripting or .CMD or .BAT files and create a desktop shortcut:
