Alternate Gatekeeper List - what order do things go in?

Hi all,

I've got some CM 3.1 gear with location 1 running S8500 and 3 G700s. 1 of them has an LSP in it. These are all Network region 1.

In location 2, I have 2 G700s, running off the 8500, but also with a LSP. The 2 gateways and LSP are all in network region 2.

There is, what I contend is a misconfiguration where network region 1 page 2 lists the backup server as a single entry, the LSP in location 2. I say the LSP in location 1 should be in NR1's form.

The alternate gatekeeper list sent by CM, as I understand it, includes all CLANs (there are none) in the network region, then the backup servers in page 2 of the network region form, then the survivable GK node-name in the station form.

I'm contending with a colleague of mine that CM will only send the CLANs in the same NR first, but it won't do it for the LSP. I believe the LSP must be specified in the network region form and that will be the first LSP chosen. I don't think its enough that a LSP exists in your NR and not specify it in the NR form to have CM send it in the AGK.

So, does a LSP in the same NR as phones appear in the AGK if it is not specified as a backup server in the network region form?

Any takers?
Thanks,
Kyle.

I think you are correct. If an LSP has not been entered into the LSP list in any NR form, how is it associated with any region?

FYI if your phone is assigned a region in the network map form then the AGL will also contain all CLANs in directly connected NRs.

Thanks for your feedback. i was hoping someone would be able to say with 100% certainty, but I guess general concensus is about the best I can hope for!

you must specify the backup LSP in the Network Region form, on page 2. Otherwise, it is not sent to the IP phones when they register, and the IP phones will not have a backup server IP to try to connect to, if the main server is unreachable.

I would also make sure your MGC lists, include any CLANs or Processor Ethernet IP's for the main switch first, and then the LSP/ESS server PE's at the end, also make sure you set the recovery timers to tell the remote gateway when the switchover occurs to LSP registration (as opposed to trying alternate main CLANs/PE). Of course you can only specify 4 IP's in the MGC list maximum...
