Am curious to know about the significance of "Alternate Drill Down Paths" and how do we decide that we need an Alternate Drill Down Path..

thanks in advance

Alternate drill down paths are a different way of viewing similar data. For instance, here is one dimension relating to sales and how an alternate drill down path can be used.

Country Sales Territory
Region Sales Office
City Manager
Sales office
Sales Person

The common link to this dimension is the Sales Person level. This is what is reffered to as the convergence level and it must contain unique values. The main path provides a 'geographical' representation and the alternate provides a 'regional' type hierarchy.

Keep in mind that perfornamce may be affected when using alternate drill downs because the alternat path is built into one partition and will not span partitions like main drill paths.

Hope this helps.
