NNM Gods,

This is kind of out there, but with pagers becoming a thing of the past, besides having the NNM machine send a page to a cell phone, email alerts seems to be the only thing we have at our disposal to contact specific personnel.

This is a pie-in-the-sky question for you all, does anyone know a way that NNM could be used to send an alert via Instant Messenger, Yahoo messenger, or ICQ?

I know that there is some way to interface with IM since is seems there are bunch of porno sites that send out IMs whenever you sign on. I'm curious how they do it and can that method be transitioned to NNM?

Ideas, observation, recriminations?

Blaine

with perl or active perl you may be able to write an interface to instant messengers. There is allot of sample code out there showing how to interface most types of instant messengers. Then when an alert happens you can run an Openview Action that is a "trusted application" that would send the message. I would start with sourceforge.net and see if someone has already tried to do this. In most cases I find that someone is already trying what i want to write an application for.

I agree, I wrote a perl script that updated a web page for me when a paticular alarm came in. I am sure you could do the same with the other apps.
