Don't know if this is possible but thought I'd ask......
I have an NT4 & 2000 server environment with clients which are all 2000 and using WINS to resolve server names to IP addresses. For DR purposes I'd like to be able to change the IP address a particular server name points to, possibly in the middle of the day. When I change this on the WINS server it has no effect, even when I stop and start the service.

Does a desktop P.C. "cache" it's name resolution info somewhere...a bit like on an ARP table ?

If so how can I clear this ?

Any offers would be gratefully accepted.

Mac.

As I recall, changing the name of a computer while the network is running requires that you wait for the browser service to update. I thought that this happened by default every 15 or 30 minutes.

How long have you waited to see if the update actually happens?

You should be able to do a 'nbtstat -RR' from the client machine in question, I don't know of a way to do it across all clients...

I am curious why do you want to change the name of the machine in the middle of the day?
