I am looking into Altell's home internet service. I have cell phones, and no landline. and no cable. I don't want to have to subscribe to Time Warner, just to get Road-Runner internet. or get a land line just to get DSL.

I called my cell phone company, Alltel and they have a service that uses my phone as a modem. direct plug into my computer and i can use it to access the internet. I just use the internet to surf, check e-mail, use ebay the most broadband i use is uploading pictures.

the service is $25. a month, $70.00 one time data kit, 15 day trial period, DSL speeds or higher with my phone. Flat fee for time online and DOES NOT use my phone's minutes.

drawbacks - the service only applies only to one phone line, my husband and I both have cell phones, but the $25 charge applies to only one phone number. so hubby wouldn't be able to surf unless my phone was home. BUT I could add a line to my service for only 9.99 that served as a designated internet phone and as a 'House' phone, for the babysitter or whatever.

Does anyone have experience with this service? suggestions of questions to ask before I try it?

I have Verizon's data service. You can do it 2 ways that i know of with them. I have a blackberry that you can connect with a USB cable and use that to connect or I have a card that goes in my laptop and you use that to connect. I have had great luck with the Verizon service and the speed is great. I also know someone who has Cingular and that works great to.
