Initializing the NIM master.
Initializing NIM client xxxx-mgt.
0042-001 nim: processing error encountered on "master":
/usr/bin/lslpp: Fileset bos.alt_disk_install.rte not installed.

0505-204 nimadm: SPOT spot530-latest does not have bos.alt_disk_install.rte installed.
0505-205 nimadm: The level of bos.alt_disk_install.rte installed in SPOT
spot530-latest (0.0.0.0) does not match the NIM master's level (5.3.0.30).
Cleaning up alt_disk_migration on the NIM master.

Does any one have any idea ?
I have check my spot directory and effectively the directory bos.alt_disk_install.rte doesn't exist but the fileset is installed on my NIM.
Do I have to install it manually (how to do it) or did I have to recreate my spot.
I can confirm that my lppsource 53 is correct and have all the filesets and the .toc is good also.

Thanks in advance for your help

Your SPOT doesn't have the correct level of bos.alt_disk_install.rte. Update your SPOT with the correct level.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply but the SPOT doesn't have the bos.alt_disk_install.rte, this is my problem. The lppsource53 contains the spot with the latest level of bos.disk_install.rte. I have rerun the inutoc and create a new spot but I still don't have the bos.disk_install.rte created on the spot and I don't know why. Should I have to do it manually (Add a software to the spot existing ?

Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers.
Al,

Deallocate the your SPOT.
Copy all the images to the SPOT (e.g.,/spdata/sys1/install/aix53/lppsource)
Create a new .toc (nim -o check lpp_source)
Create the SPOT (nim_res_op)
After the update is complete run setup_server.

I have over 5 years on the IBM SP2 and the installs are wrapped up using NIM. Unfortunately, for the past 2+ years I have been doing Solaris. I really enjoy AIX and the SP and my 1 year using the Regatta. Everything is just so slick and great with AIX. It's like a BMW while Solaris is like a Packard.

Anyway, hope that helps.

I'm not sure you have to re-create your spot. I've run into this many times lately, as I have been setting up a new NIM server at the 5.3 level (and have struggled with things I don't remember encountering at 5.2 -- but that is another thread).

Here's how I would do it:

smitty nim
Perform NIM Administration Tasks
Manager Resources
Perform Operations on Resources
Select the SPOT you are using in your alt_disk_install
Select cust = perform software customization
In the Source of Install Images field, press F4 and select the LPP source that contains the bos.alt_disk_install images.
In the fileset names, type bos.alt_disk_install
Scroll down to the ACCEPT new license agreements? and change no to yes.
Take the default for everything else.
Press Enter.

When the software customization is completed, do a Perform Operations on Resouces again. Run a check on the SPOT. I also run a Verify Resouces on the SPOT. That will find problems in the SPOT before you use it.

I haven't used NIM since 5.1. So maybe things are more troublesome with 5.3.

Hi,

I have finally find the solution.
The fileset bos.alt_disk_install is not done by default, so I tried to install the fileset via smitty nim on the spot53 and now I can do an ALT-Migr!

Cheers.
