ALT Attribute on image - can you set time lengh?

Hello-

I was wondering if there is a method in which one could set a time limit on the alt attribute on an image.

For example, if I have a really really really long alt image attrubute the alt text will only stay open for around 8 seconds. Is there a way I can change that to 30 seconds?

Any advice would be wonderful. Many thanks,

Besides, [tt]alt[/tt] attribute should be used for displaying short picture information for browsers that cannot show pictures. If you are using such a long one, your site will be unusable in those browsers. What you're talking about is [tt]title[/tt] attribute rather than alt.

Try rephrasing your question to explain what it is you actually want to do.


The alt attribute of an image is not meant to provide "pop up" text when you mouseover something. IE does this, but it shouldn't.
Other browsers use the title attribute to do this, but again, the title attribute is not meant to provide large blocks of mouseover text.

I am guessing you want a block of text to appear when you mouseover an element?
You will need to use hidden <div>s and employ javascript to make the relevant one appear when you mouseover it's related element.
