Also, something simple, creating a colored line

i can't get the line tool to change colors, what am I doing wrong?

P.S. when i try to fill certain cells in a table, it keeps putting a gradient on them....why?

The lines drawn by the line tool are controlled by the stroke and color palettes. The line must be selected with the selection tool in order to apply a change. You can also define the color and stroke before you draw with the line tool.

I adjusted the color to a blue, stroke to 4pt, but still got a black line.........don't know what i'm doing wrong.
