already open message in excel

If I access a spreadsheet from "explorer" I get a message saying that the spreadsheet is already open. If I access the spreadsheet from within Excel this does not happen.
The op system is Windows XP and the computer is not networked.

In Windows Explorer, go to Tools, Folder Options, File Type tab, find XLS extension, click on Advanced button, choose open, click Edit and make sure Use DDE is checked and then make sure that DDE message says [open("%1")]

Please post again if that does solve your problem
