Alpha use in tables - text also transparent

Situation - I have a sci-fi background, dark on top bright on bottom - I want to make table (in Dreamweaver) a bit darker so one can read the white text, but the table must be transparent (opacity 35 looks great), but when I use it it messes up the text and other filters (Glow, DropShadow) - so: How can I make table background transparent, while keeping text and adjacent filters at full Alpha (100)?

Thanx for help - I already have square eyes working on 85 Hz from this one :)
