I need to know if you can select data and send it to someone via alpha-text paging to their pager or cell phone that can receive text or alpha pages. It would be a great help for my techs to not have to call in for details of my customers.

thanks in advance
Chris

Yes You can. You will need to learn TAP protocol or SNPP based on what your provider accepts Or you can send it using SMTP or an e-mail most providers accept that. If your programming skills are at entry level then another option is to look at something like Page.ocx just add to your form, a few lines of code and off you go. Will need to pay a few bucks but a time saver.

Page.ocx? Never heard of it. i'm pretty well versed in access and have my friend that does it for a living but he's never heard of a way. Can you explain more about page.ocx?

Thanks
Chris

Sorry for slow response. Had some work to do. Do a search for page.ocx and you will see it is a marketed product. there are some others but I had some early success with this one.

Actually, i found out that most pagers (just about all of them) have a way you can email their pager with a message. Its easy to send an email from Access.

Thanks for all the help.

Chris

Chris,
You are correct e-mail is the simpliest to implement. The advantage to TAP and SNPP is you receive immediate notification of a problem that affects your message. Email is quite reliable but the first time I had an urgent message show up several hours after it was sent I was forced to find another solution. Plus I can format the way my message looks to a greater degree.
I am glad you found a solution. But I would encourage those who do a lot of paging to look into SNPP.
