I have a field that is a semester/session for a college. Sessions are defined as 198S for Spring Session of 1998 and 199S for Spring of 1999. I see the 199S field minus the S and the 198S field displays as a blank session. Is there a way to have Crystal not define the field as a number before the data is put into the report. I am using an ascii file.

Thanks in advance.

Daniel,

If you are reading ASCII data you are probably doing it via an ODBC connection. It is this connection that defines the data type, not Crystal Reports. If you are not familiar with ODBC, ask whoever set up the ODBC connectin to the data to check the data type they used for this column.

I am the only one working with this data source. Would I set up the connection with ODBC Data Sources or with BDE Adminstrator.

Thanks again,

Daniel,

It is already setup, you just need to tweek it. Where you go depends on how you are connecting. How are you connecting to the text file? Somewhere (ODBC or BDE)there is a specification for the file you are reading, and you need to find it and tweek it.

Did you set up the connection yourself or did someone create it for you? You can modify it through ODBC/BDE once you know where it is. I am not an expert in connecting to text files, but I have seen the setup screen where you can define the data types. I believe that it will guess, and you can modify it if it guesses wrong.
