I have a server that I'm rebuilding after an SSD crash; it was running Win10/Aloha 12.3.x/EDC14.1.29 without issue until the SSD with the OS on it blew up (Aloha etc... live on a separate HDD). I replaced the SSD and reinstalled Win10, then figured I might as well get a clean copy of Aloha on the machine as well, so I copied the files I wanted to keep, wiped the HDD, and started fresh. I don't have a 12.3.x installer, so I start with 6.7.70, then install NAM, then upgrade to 12.3.x; I've done this several times prior to now without issue. This time, I can't get CtlSvr to register - I've run the register file - it skips right over CtlSvr, then registers EdcSvr correctly. I tried to manually create the service using SC CREATE - this appears to work, but the service won't start, giving "Error 1053-the service failed to start in a timely fashion."

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I have had same issue. I think it may have to do with the user account for windows. Make sure it has a password on the account. That has been 1 reason for the failure in my past. I have also installed ver 6.5 and did autoupdate to get service installed

Thank you, sir. I'll give that a go and let you know how it shakes out.

The user account had a password, so that wasn't it. I installed 6.5; still no luck, then upgraded to 6.7 - same story. I went ahead and upgraded to NAM, then put 12.3.48 in, and sure enough, I am able to register the CtlSvr now. Problem solved - but I sure would like to know the root cause...

Thanks for the help!

OK, now CtlSvr and EdcSvr are running; I can see them both in Server Manager, and I have the Functions option available in NAM. But it won't grind from within NAM! I can run grind from the command prompt, and it appears to be OK, but when I try to fire one in NAM, it hangs up. Nothing about it in any of the debouts. I'm beginning to think I've got a problem with the server itself... Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Back on this issue, after a long weekend...

Recapping, I installed a fresh SSD with Windows, but kept the old(er) HDD running Aloha. I reinstalled Aloha on the old HDD, so I had a clean start. Had issues getting CltSvr to register and run, but am past that. Now having problems (Aloha freezes up...) every time I ask it to do anything requiring a grind. Have determined that, every time a grind is started, something called "Aloha Manager Security Server" fires up, using a lot of system resources. When I kill it, the operation I asked for runs, be it a Sales Report, Edit Punches, etc. … - grind runs, and the operation completes. This happens each time a grind is called for. Any ideas?

Thanks!

More specifically, looks like every time a date-select prompt comes up, it locks up - killing the "Aloha Manager Security Service" frees it up.

Thanks again!

Just as a flyer, I un/reregistered the .dlls a half dozen or so times, and it is now working. Same registration files I use everywhere, that I have already used countless times on this build... Not sure what changed, but it is working after several reboots, so I think it probably will stick.

Thanks!
