Can anyone give me an objective opinion of Aloha vs. MaitreD? I'm looking for a new system and these are the only options available or acceptable. Don't ask why, it is what it is.
I looking for setup/maintenance issues, Inventory, training, stability, flexibility and Cashiering environment.
Any remarks that are objective would be appreciated.

Its very hard for anyone to really evaluate your needs from this forum. But I can say a couple of things.

I have seen MaitreD and I like it a lot. It is stable and easy. I have no idea how it handles cashiering, so that may be your key issue.
I also don't know how it does inventory, but it MUST be better than Aloha for that. Aloha SUX0rs in the Inventory arena.
But Aloha does handle Cashiering very well.

Aloha is a much more established software, meaning that it has been adapted to meet an outrageous amount of environments. -Good if you need flexibility, but most people use about 3% of its capabilities. -Bad because it gets complicated to setup and make it work exactly how you want it to.
Training on Aloha is the easiest for your FOH employees because it is so widely used, most people have used it many times before.

If Maitre'D meets your needs for Inventory and cashiering, the next steps are the level of service you will expect from the dealers, and then of course $$$$.

{how's that for a big 'ol "non-answer"!}

I think Matre D is a very good and stable product. Have each dealer setup a demo for cashiering and inventory specifically. These are your two key issues.

I have no experience with MaitreD, but I do use Aloha. We have a full service dining room and a take out. We do about $1mil through our take out a year, and I am extremely satisfied with the cashiering functionality of Aloha.

That being said, I agree with rokstar, Aloha can be complicated because of the flexibility in the software. Obviously, the clearer youcan be with your reseller, the more helpful they can be in meeting your needs.

As far as inventory, I believe the Aloha inventory program is an add on program that must be purchased. I chose Compeat ( for my BOH inventory software. This program does all inventory and accounting functions, and does a phenominal job. Compeat integrates fully with Aloha so there is no manual data entry of daily sales activity.

RokStar & zahead31,

Thanks for your input but I've worked with Aloha for many years; actually I was working with it in '94 while its BOH was still DOS, there were less than 10 resellers and maybe 2 dozen non-corporate sites.
My issue is really about knowing more of Maitre'D and was hoping a Maitre'D reseller was on the forum. Anyone that could give me an objective comparision. Anything would help.
