Is it possible to upgrade from 6.5 to 12.3? Thanks in advance!

thanks
Damon

Yup talk to your rep, you'll need to get a new key and swap your license over to do the upgrade.

I just want to verify, do you mean we can't do anything without the assistamce from the provider?
Is it possible to use an existing usb dongle to be used for 12.3 version.

thank you....

if your dongle is licensed for 12.3 and you have the key codes for it then you can upgrade.
Going from 6.5 old aloha to 12.3 new aloha manager requires a host of changes to be made to back of house.
installation of SQL studio
There are steps that have to be done in a specific order for it to work correctly.
If you just wanted to move the database, that is a different issue.
Clay have you had any experience attempting to import a different database into NAM after first was done? I have not had to do it on a production machine. I have tried on a virtual machine with no luck.

The short answer is no Damon. Theoretically you can do the upgrade yourself but you'll need them for the licensing.
Moving the database is an interesting idea. I've never tried to do it in NAM.

thank you so much GUys, I really appreciate your support.

You can't import into NAM if you already have a system imported. It will tell you something like unable to import multiple stores or something like that. You can upgrade to 12.3 if your key is licensed for it and your hardware is compatible with 12.3. The lowest terminal you can run on 12.3 is a 1515. Recommended 1530's or higher due to ram and storage space as well as .net versions. Pos ready 7 recommended for terms. I am not exactly sure what you guys are doing but ya lol. Since NAM is sql you can make a backup of the other database and copy the database files out of your aloha folder and then drop the new data into the aloha folder, uninstall NAM, reinstall and import the new data. Make a backup of that sql uninstall, reinstall and restore that first backup of sql? I would do this in a controlled environment first that you can break like a lab or something.

thank you so much, do you a procedure on how to install 12.3 I already have the license keys to upgrade my system.

thank you...

Import only works if there's not a database in CFC and you are trying to import from 6.7 or below. The restore/backup with zbacks is what is intended for higher POS versions. If you have a higher DB you want to import just change the version to 6.7 in ver.dbf prior to import.

There's no need to uninstall SQL, just run

Aeminstoredatabaseinstaller.exe /deleteonly

and

Aeminstoredatabaseinstaller.exe /installstandalone

I need help on upgrading my aloha 5.3 to version 12.3 do you have any documentations, procedure, what are the requirements and prerequisites. Note that my os is stil windows xp :)

PLease Help thank you,

going from 5.3 to 12 will require a few upgrades of the database along the way. If you are licensed for 12.3 then it should not be an issue.

Things to consider
[ul]
[li]5.3 must be installed on a 32 bit os[/li]
[/ul]
[ul]
[li]12.3 can be installed on 64 bit. Win 10[/li]
[/ul]

You may want to upgrade the database on older machine and once upgraded move to new machine and start the install/import process. This type of task is not for everyone. On a scale of 1 to 10 its up there in the 7 or 8 range of knowledge required to do it correctly. Their are many things that can go wrong along the way if not done correctly in in the right order[dazed]
If you start doing it yourself and run into issues, it can be even harder to figure out what went wrong and where to start in the fixing process. This not something I recommend doing by yourself unless you have a lab where you can screw it up over and over until you get it right.

Oh I see what you are saying now!!!! Once you have already imported before you need to delete the program, insert a 6.7 ver.dbf into data and new data and you can install, select do not back up which will ask you if you are sure you want to delete the current sql database and you select the selection to delete the database then you install a blank NAM and you can import again. I do this all the time when people lock out the admin user. Frustrating but I have done it probably 50 times now.

PosTech you don't have the password reset util for NAM. Its very quick and easy to use. Much faster than dbfnavigator for old aloha
