BOH is XP SP3 with AlohaQS 5.3.39 currently installed. Using
AlohaUpdate_AlohaPOS_Anyto6_4_28.exe for the first time. Running as Administrator with Antivirus disabled.

I get about halfway through the update before it fails and rolls back to 5.3.3.9. I have verified that our security key supports up to version 6.4.28.

Has anybody run into this problem? Here is the error message at the point of failure:

Feb 25 12:23:59 Aloha Update Info...Command: D:\Aloha\bin\dbup3.exe /Iberdir D:\Aloha /DBFInput D:\Aloha\newdata /DBFOutput D:\Aloha\newdata /Debug /DBFOnly /ForceUpgrade

Feb 25 12:24:00 Aloha Update Error...The application failed to initialize properly (This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem).

Thanks!

try it without the /Debug switch. you don't need /ForceUpgrade (it's part of /DBFOnly now)so get rid of it too.

stop ctlsvr service before you begin.

use a dbup3.exe from the 6.x install. the 5.3 version is quite old, they made changes since then.

you can always try the GUI (dbconfig.exe)

not sure any of that will fix the problem, but it's a start.

Oh, and don't use the upgrade executables, just download the install you want to upgrade to, extract all the files from the .iso (i use 7-zip but that's just my preference) and run... god, is it alohainstall.msi /update ???

I should know this, might be in the radiant kb? run alohainstall.msi /? to see your options at least. I thought there was an /advanced but... sorry, have to get back to my job...

let me know if anything works?

Thank you 360fish for the advice. Tek-tips forum member Swampgas helped me figure out that the dbup3 failing to initialize is due to not having the ATL Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 installed.

I downloaded and installed the ATL Security update from here:

I then re-ran the upgrade and everything worked just fine. Thanks to Swampgas and 360fish. Your comments were helpful too because I was not aware of that method of upgrading.
