Hello,

I recently purchased several terminal, printers, drawers, and a back-office machine to use Aloha in my restaurant. Since I don't have a ton of extra cash laying around, I'm trying to determine if I can just buy an Aloha license, install it on the back office machine myself, set up the terminals, and build the menus without bringing in a POS company to do it for me.

I want to pay a POS company to help with maintenance after I install it, and I have experience routing printers, building menus, etc., but have no experience actually installing the software and connecting the back office to all the terminals. I'm a problem-solver, so I can probably get it with a little help... but my experience with this level of use is low. But I'm broke!

If I buy an Aloha 6.1 license, is it feasible that I set it up myself, without any solid IT/Networking background?

Thanks for the assistance,

Kevin

Sure with our help you can. Most of what we do here on the Tek-Tips site is hardware related. I would suggest browsing thru posts. I have a few FAQ's on setting up terminals and servers for Aloha.

Best bet is XP pro for terminals and server.

If you are broke, Aloha may not be for you. The cost per terminal license with credit card processing is about 1500.00 per terminal. I gather from your purchase, Aloha was NOT already loaded on this system. You may be better off trying to find a system that already has Aloha software key...
