A strange problem occurs. For some reason during dinner, Term1 will freeze if you try to do something like opening a new check or the cash box. This only happens with Term1 all the other terminals are OK. We are running Aloha 5.2.8 and have 11 terminals.

Does anyone have any idea what might be going on?

Thanks!

No.

MASTERCAPABLE and SERVERCAPABLE are set to false.

What OS is on the office server?
Is it a server licensed for more than 10 connections?

The terminals run Windows98 and the server runs Windows2000

try switching one of your terminals around. Make sure to rename then in computer name, ip address. change the iber.cfg to the terminal you are moving it to. See if the problem follows the terminal or the location.

Have already tried that.
The problem still persists.

Have tried reinstalling the OS, tried a new terminal, and even a new cash box.

the problem persists with terminal 1 location or the actual terminal? If its at the location, things to think about that will cause freezing.
1.check patch cables(make sure there is no gunk or any kind of build up.
2.check the jack and test the line from that location.(you can also switch ports on the switch to see if that resolves the issue.
3.also check you power conditioning, you can experience weird occurrences with faulty electric stuff. This also includes power cables and if you have a battery backup there.
I recently went to a location in surf city called blvd clams.
they managed to blow 5 scanners 2 1210 and a pole display. we upgraded there conditioning to ground guards and it resolved the issue.

When it freezes, does it freeze to where u have to reboot it to get it to work? does it flash cannot locate fileserver? If its frozen try sticking a keyboard to the terminal and see if you can end task on aloha. let me know if its just locking up on aloha or the entire terminal

Hi Everybody,

I wanted to say THANKS to everybody who contributed with suggestions. While looking through the debout I found a few issues which were causing the problems.

The issues that I found included:
The vnetbios.vxd issue:

The locked (OLK file) terminal issue:

In addition, I found a worm active on some systems:

It's a good thing the POS system runs on a private network that is not connected to the internet. I believe the worm may have been accidentally introduced by the previous tech.

At the moment everything appears to be functioning normally and without issue.
