My brother had me look at their Aloha system they were having trouble with. I am a computer programmer aka the family computer guy. They are having 2 issues. Their main issue is that the credit card processing always uses the dial up modem which is suppose to be for backup and not the DSL. This is an issue when they are busy. They had support out from Foremost business systems (the group that set this system up) and they said it was the dsl company. They had Foremost along with the dsl support out and they couldn't find the issue. I really couldn't come up with anything without any documentation.

The other issue that I can see is that ctlsvr.exe will peg the processor at 100% for about 15 - 20 seconds, then go down to 0% for about 10 seconds then back up to 100% for another 15 - 20 seconds. This cycle continues as long as the computer is on. I have no idea if the two are related.

Does anyone have any suggestions to help me debug the issue?

What do you think of Foremost Business Systems? We also had Foremost install our Aloha system. We haven't had any major problems with our system so far. We've had it for about a year.

Have your DSL provider check to make sure you are set to be able to communicate over SSL. If they have SSL unavailable to conserve bandwidth your problem has been found.

Whenever the system can't find a SSL it will roll to the analogue modem. To get back to using DSL you usually have to turn POS off then back on.

Set Windows to give background services priority in processor scheduling. (As long as ctlsvr is registered as a service) ctlsvr runs a little more effeciently when logging in as an administrative user and not with a system logon.
