I am helping out a friend at a bistro we will call CB. It is there that I first experienced what I will call the CB 2-step. I helped them before and this has been going on for years but I have never had the time with their system to do a thorough troubleshoot. They are Aloha Tableservice 4.2 :-(

I will get the debout's next time I am in there but I forgot to get them last night

They use Aloha stored value (the VBO program loads as part of the terminal startup). Every time they refresh the terminals will restart, determine master, determine fileserver, load VBO for gift card and read in the transaction log and at some point during or just after that it kicks out of Aloha and reboots again. This second time through all will finish and the terminal will come up with floating logo and all will then be fine.

I first saw this happen there a few years ago but we got them up and running on their new fileserver and I never revisited the issue but it really bugs me. I know this happens on at least 3 of their 5 terminals and probably all.

Any ideas???

Kinda hard to guess without looking at the debout, but after you look at it I can't imagine it will be too difficult to find the cause.

I have seen that before with systems with Udocks instead of harddrives. Not enough space to copy data on the first pass so it does it finishes on the second

Looking at the debout it may have been due to a date issue and timezone.ini but I am still not completely sure. This restaurant I am helping has real gremlins in their system but it keeps on going so they aren't that concerned.
Today I made the master the fileserver while we made an image of the server. As I was entering the number to make fileserver suddenly it popped up with log error. It went through a restart and got up running as the fileserver but it was a bit scary.
