i'm trying to find info on how to configure specific things on an aloha point-of-sale system...

basically, trying to do a happy-hour type deal... would be nice to have a "1/2 off button" on the screen... ring up a drink or two, hit half-off, and have the price reduced by %50 on certain items only...

cant find any docs online and dont have access to manuals... any help would be appreciated...

Common procedure is two create a seperate menu, otherwise the half off button can be misused. Recreate the submenus that will have HH priced items on them, change their price at the submenu level, and name them HHBeer, HHVodka, etc., then go into your menus group and create menus for HHServer, HHBartender, etc. that look just like the regular menus. On the new menus change the submenu Beer to HHBeer, etc. Next you go to your events and select event 7 and schedule the HH menus to fire, not forgetting to set the regular menu to fire back when HH is over. Aloha works best this way, but you can create a comp to accomplish what you asked.
The reason it works best that way is that many places only have wells on HH but this would give your servers the ability to half off things other than wells.

Based upon your method of using separate menus items, what complications result if you use the Aloha inventory module. Having "two" sets of drink items for HH would initially seem difficult for recipe management. How do you work around that?

It is still the same item number you just change its price at the submenu level.

Just build a promo called HH special. You have to link this promo to a specific catagory, so you may need to build a specific catagory in which the 50% off items apply to. (non-sales)
Now select auto apply. You should have to use the restrictions tab and select all the boxes. Once the promo is built and linked. Use Maint. Systems, events and write the promo to fire at a specific time (ie HH start time) and again for an ending time. All the items in the linked catagory will be discounted at 50% off.
Promotion setup may vary depending on your version. I hope this helps. There are about 5 different ways to do what you want, but this is the easiest.
