Hello dear community,

I have an Aloha system that fails to grind at the end of the day. I can remove the folder that fails so it can continue to boot FOH. But it will fail again at the end of the next day. It can't be a corrupt trans.log file because it creates the new one every day and they all fail. If I view a report - it halts with a window "Now grinding...".

I wish I could find the reason of this problem without having to restore the whole system.

Thank you.
John D.

in the TMP folder there is a file called Debout.g01

This, along with Debout.eod may help you find out what it is halting on. If you want, you can run grind.exe from a command line with a debug flag which will write more info into that debout.g01 file.
eg. d:\aloha\bin\grind.exe /DATE 20060716 /debug
The folders that you removed should be placed back in the aloha directory.
Inside each one of those folders (The ones that don't grind) place a marker file inside called gnddbf30.xxx
That will stop it from automatically trying to grind the folder.

You can also try running a database upgrade, with the box for "Force Version Upgrade" checked. Then do a refresh.

Think about when it first failed and what happened before that.
Check your folder structure, Did a folder get moved accidentally?
What version of Aloha are you running? Is it TS or QS?

The first thing I would check is the debout files located at Z:\Aloha\TMP.

The debout.eod is a log of the end of day process. Also, check the debout log for your master terminal.

Thank you for fast response.
ALOHA is TS version 4.
I extracted the DATE FOLDER back to aloha folder and it automatically grinded without a hitch. The DATE before that had a corrupt trans.log though.
I suspected the corrupt log file so I removed the corrupt folder. But for some reason it failed to grind on the next business day (with a good trans.log) again.
Will see what happens tomorrow.

Once one day doesn't grind, it won't continue to the next day unless you put that marker file in.

It says which day it is trying to grind in the grind window when it pops up. I'm guessing you didn't notice that it was trying to regrind the same day over and over.

Now you just need to fix the corrupt log and try to grind it again. If you don't have the fixlog utilities you'll have to have someone do it for you.

All the receipts have been printed out - so there is no need for repairs. It is a nice tool to have though.
I have a fixlog.exe file but it is not matching the Aloha version a little bit. Is there any place I can download all the fixlogs utilities? Google did not find the version I need.

PS. That tip about the marker file made my day. Thank you.

You're not supposed to have it unless you are a certified Aloha .. whatever.. you know what I mean.

you're reseller can fix it for you, or Radiant.

In v4.x.x, sometimes the fixlog still doesn't work, then someone with the log utilities has to go into the translog and fix what ails it.

If you happen to find any other files that start with fixlog*, like fixlog3.exe or fixlog5200.exe, let me know and I'll walk you through it.
You are correct, the fixlog needs to match the version. And not just v 4, it is specific to 4.230, 4.3, etc.
4.230 has a different fixlog than 4.231

Glad to help.
