I just purchased 5 P1550 touch screens with mag-strip readers and now the new EMV card readers are required in October 2015 and I am going to need new readers to read the EMV chip. Does anyone know what Aloha has in mind to fill this need?
Our local provider has no idea what equipment will work with Aloha Software.
Help

I think they only require them in the environment of stand alone machines ie verifones, etc. If you're using software based POS, then your software and and all other aspects of PCI needs to be met. I'm not 100% sure, but i just don't see how it would work either as you would need additional hardware.

According to the credit card companies in October 2015 the EMV computer chip will be required and any system that reads by Mag Strip only the restaurant will be liable should fraud take place and the card is stolen or the Mag strip card bad
The USA is the last to go with this system because of fraud the USA is changing the standard for card readers. SAMs Club And other large retailers have changed over Google EMV are you ready? For details

Dennis is correct, the liability shift moves over in October to the merchant. EMV cards will still have mag strips so you will still be able to take them but if one is fraudulent you will lose. The reason for the delay is in part because MC and Visa could not decide on whether it would be chip and PIN or chip and signature. I think Visa is chip and PIN and MC is chip and signature. Chip and pin in a restaurant means you will need to bring the reader to the customer or have them come up to the counter. This adds a huge cost to full service restaurants.
No idea why Aloha isn't telling their dealers what to do yet. If you want to skip the Aloha software and use a third party, look into Shift 4. There are a few others out there that handle the CCs outside of the POS and in the backend, they send down payment info so it still is integrated.
Another option, Ziosk or E La Carte order at the table tablets also have payment integration. Using them, you also would get all the benefits that ordering at the table has.
