When turned on, the kitchen printer prints endlessly ?v?v?v?v?v?v?v?v.

The printer selftest performs fine.

System has been shut down, restarter, and data refreshed.

No. When unplugging the data cable the printing stops.

I would check your cable for frayed wires or cuts or crips, the garbage printing usually happens when there are wires touching that should not, a bad cable connected to the PC or a bad adapter.

See if you still have the problem if you plugged the printer directly to the computer the same way the check printer is plugged in with know good cables and adapters from other printers in the house. If the problem does not happen it is bad cables. If it still happens then you can safely say the printer needs some repair.
